And the winner is...Alex Mizurov!

The third annual Boost Mobile + éS Game of SKATE Amateur World Championships and 2006 Finals went down on Saturday, September 9, 2006 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Action Sports Retailer trade show in San Diego, California.

Alex Mizurov.

Chris Cole and just one corner of the massive crowd.

Entrants from around the world--including Europe, Australia, Japan, Canada and all over the United States--flew in just for the event, and sure enough, it was an unknown kid from Germany who unexpectedly claimed a major upset victory.

Jack Crook.

P.J. Ladd was sporting some sweet new kicks.

As a huge crowd of 2,000 to 3,000 people--including throngs of industry heads, kids and even quite a few parents--completely surrounded the four lanes, a plethora of video and digital cams captured all the action for posterity.

Mark Suciu.

Hot chicks were in the mix.

Gentle pro golf tournament-like refrains of "Oooh!" and "Aaah!" were heard frequently, punctuated by the occasional loud roar whenever someone bolts-landed a flawlessly executed and very difficult technical trick. Germany's Alex Mizurov took out all the ams and, eventually, all the pros to earn the top spot and a cool $10,000.

Clockwise from top left: Matix Team Manager Tony Evjenth grabs a big bite. The top three ams. Javier Sarmiento. Another token crowd shot.

Some am winners.

A total of 26 amateurs battled it out for about 90 minutes in the Amateur World Championships. As all the ams were whittled down to the top three, Saratoga California's Mark Suciu lost to Australia's Jack Crook on a full Cab flip and settled for third place. Jack lost to Alex Mizurov on a backside double flip for second.

P.J. Ladd.

Unknown. Chris Cole.

In the last moments of the 90-minute Finals, which boasted 53 pro entrants, Taylor Smith lost to Chris Cole on a switch double heel for third place, while Cole lost to Alex Mizurov on a switch backside 180 late kickflip for second.

These two went at it tooth and nail, repeatedly matching each other's ridiculous tricks and keeping the roaring crowd at the edge of their seats. It was a pretty big upset, as many had their bets placed on Chris Cole--especially considering he had knocked such heavy-hitters as P.J. Ladd out of the game earlier.

Left to right: éS Events Manager Mark Waters, Janae Twisselman from Boost Mobile, Alex Mizurov, éS Owner Pierre André, éS Brand Marketing Manager Matt Sharkey.

A big congratulations goes out to Alex Mizurov for skating hard for over three hours, winning two tournaments and generally taking the éS Game of SKATE by storm. Thanks to everyone behind the scenes at Boost Mobile, éS Footwear, TransWorld Skateboarding and Ogio, as well as all of the entrants at all of the games around the world, for making the éS Game of SKATE series such a huge success for the third year in a row. We'll see you next year.

i agree with trevorTws garry, i love watching games of skate, but for some reason, everytime there is a clip of one, its incomplete (i dont understand why does TWSkateboarding cant offer complete clips), or they have low quality (like the ones posted here on the éS site, in which you could hardly tell which trick they were doing).

TWS only had one person filming. Most of the time there were 4 games of skate happening at the same time.

It's disapointing to see that not many big names entered. But anyways it WAS a great final round from what I've seen. Mizurov went a hella long way to win and I know people will talk shit on him but he skated damn well.

PJ always looks uncomfortable as hell during these kind of things.

Garry, convince them of this: éS Game Of Skate DVD. All matches covered in seperate chapters, with slick editing detailing the trick done at any given time. The filmers are gonna have to put some extra work into it, and the editing is gonna be heavy, but come on, that would be damn sick.

    DAMN SICK, Garry!

Shané: You should've seen Darryl Grogan. What a joker. He nearly made it to the finals too.

  23. Josh P.'s Avatar Josh P. Posted: 2 years ago

He was bringing freestyle back. lol. I was glad to see him go. I didn't want to see that in the finals.

HEY EVERYONE I JUST FOUND OUT SOMETHING COOL ABOUT PJ LADD. EA SPORTS WHICH MAKES VIDEO GAMES IS PUTTING HIM IN A NEW GAME CALLED SKATE NO NO PROJECT 8. HERE IS THE ARTICLE.

EA Announces SKATE for PlayStation®3 and Xbox®360
New IP from EA Black Box Delivers the Most Authentic Skateboard Videogame Experience

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – September 19, 2006 – The closest thing to being on a skateboard, Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) announced today that SKATE will be released for the PlayStation®3 system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system in 2007. SKATE will deliver the feel of skating through innovative controls, authentic cameras and a fully reactive skateboarding city. The game features professional skaters such as Danny Way and PJ Ladd, as well as a reactive city and relevant in-game cameras that capture and deliver the most authentic skateboard videogame experience to date.

"Our game offers a skate mecca for both skaters and gamers in search of the definitive authentic skating video game experience," said Scott Blackwood, executive producer, EA Black Box. "We’re focused on capturing the actual feeling of skating with the innovative control system, the physics driven animations, and the intelligent cameras working together to really deliver the closest thing to being on a board."

SKATE’s unique control scheme captures the true feel of skating versus the typical button mashing gameplay of past skating games. Featuring physics-driven animations, gamers will have a unique gaming experience every time they pick up the controller since no two tricks will ever be the same.

Developed by EA Black Box in Vancouver, British Columbia, SKATE will deliver all the style, fun, creativity and culture of skateboarding without the countless hours of practice, broken bones and hospital visits. SKATE has not yet been rated by the ESRB

They should put Darryl Grogan in that game too. He does
the most insane tricks. I couldn't believe what he was doing
at the game of skate. Everyone was stoked on his crazy
tricks, Like olie imposible to one foot landing.
