éS Game of SKATE Dubai Report

Tuesday, Sep 26, 2006 · Garry

Thank goodness the éS Game of SKATE in Dubai, United Arab Emirates was held indoors this time, because it was scorching hot outside. It was at least 47 degrees celsius + humidity. We hosted the event on July 20, 2006 in Dubai’s only indoor air-conditioned skatepark, Rampworks. The day started off at around 10:00 a.m. with everyone busting out their flatground tricks. After a few hours of practicing, the guys were ready to compete against each other and show-off.

About 35 kids were registered, but plenty of spectators stopped by to cheer on their favorite skaters throughout the day. We also had a rocking DJ from Virgin who kept everyone pumping, and everyone had a blast! The competition started at 1:00 p.m. and went until 6:00. Lots of intense battles were played out, but Shaun Barton, Maysam Faras and Evan Collisson went at it particularly hard. They fought tooth-and-nail for around 45 minutes, which is pretty crazy, but Shaun eventually emerged as the victor, Maysam claimed second and Evan got third. Evan ended up going to the Finals in Frankfurt, since Shaun and Maysam couldn’t make it.

Dubai’s a pretty built up place. It’s in one of the richest countries in the world. It’s not that surprising that they have a skatepark.
