éS Game of SKATE Torrevieja, Spain Report

Wednesday, Sep 27, 2006 · Garry

Torrevieja, Alicante is a European vacation resort on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. What better place to hang out with pals and enjoy a friendly éS Game of SKATE? The event was held at the Ozone Shopping Center at rush hour while a bunch of tourists milled around all the restaurants, movie theaters and even a disco. Perfect!

Out of the recent contests in this area, this one proved to be the most multi-cultural to date, as skaters from Alicante mixed with those from other regions of Spain and even England and the Czech Republic. Moreover, the kids who competed, like Tommy, Jaime Ors and Paul Mahoney, gave it their all and showed the big boys they were there to win.

Five skaters made it into the Finals: David Gegundez, Samuel, Francisco, Julio and El Checo Honza. Consistency and variety were at the forefront. The velocity and complexity of the tricks kept the scorekeeper on his toes trying to keep track of everything. Everyone skated with class. Samuel had good pop on all his tricks, while El Checo was the most imaginative.

The winner of the event, however, was David Gegundez. Congrats to him for working so hard throughout the long night. We’d also like to send a big shout-out to Carri for the photos, Ole Surf Shop in Alicante and the Ozone Shopping Center.
