Where are you originally from?
Saugus, California.
How and when did you start skating?
I started skating in ninth grade. All my friends had skateboards, I got one for Christmas and that's pretty much how it happened. I went over to my friend's house and started skating.
On the Christmas board?
The Christmas board, yeah.
Who were you skating with at first?
Just friends--Kimo, Sean and Robert.
What terrain were you riding at first?
My friend Kimo lived on a cul-de-sac and had a box and rail--that's what we skated. That was fun.
You got a little tech at first. Who were some early influences on your skating?
Actually, I really liked Rob G and Eric Koston, of course.
How do you feel about contests?
I don't like them.
(Laughs) That's all right. How do you feel about skateboarding becoming so mainstream?
I think it's cool to a certain extent, although money gets into a lot of people's heads and it shouldn't. But, it's tight that a lot of people are seeing what skateboarding is all about. So, it's good in the sense that more people can see what we do for a living. That's how we have fun and people are seeing that now, so it's cool.
People are becoming a little more aware that we're not just punks.
Yeah.
What's your favorite skate video?
Girl Mouse. That's the best.
Do you enjoy shooting video parts?
Yeah, that's the funnest. Going out and shooting is the best.
Who do you usually film with?
Scuba Steve and my friend Curtis.
Do you skate small stuff like curbs and parking bumps much?
Yeah, all the time. That's the best, funnest stuff. I'll be waiting in the car and I have to get out and skate the red curbs--put the headphones on and just have fun.
Do you skate ramps much?
I like to skate mini-ramps. There's actually a mini-ramp by my house at a church that they just leave there, so we just go and skate that. We try to skate it every night--it's fun to go mess around on. I wish I could skate vert halfpipes, but I'm just not ready for that yet.
Should skateparks copy real street spots like Love Park and EMB?
Heck yeah, skateboarding would improve so much more. The more you skate the streets, the better you're going to be, and if the skatepark is a street, it's just going to be 10 times better.
How did you get on éS?
I gave Brandon at Val Surf a sponsor me video and he gave it to the éS Team Manager, Tony E.
What do you like about éS?
The team, the Team Manager. It's a very comfortable environment, all the shoes are great, everyone's great. It's a good shoe brand.
Who are your favorite skaters of all time?
Eric Koston is definitely one of them. Tom Penny. It's so hard. Rodrigo Teixeira. There are a lot of 'em. I'm forgetting so many, I don't even want to try.
What have been the highlights of your skateboarding career?
Traveling and just meeting a bunch of new people. Traveling is the best. That's the funnest part of skateboarding--when you get to skate so many different places.
What do you enjoy besides skating?
Girls.
(Laughs) Hell yeah!
I can't stop thinking of girls.
(Laughs)
And eating. I like to eat a lot--food is good. I'm really into music.
Who are some of your favorite bands?
I listen to Living Legends a lot. The underground scene is really cool. I'm into that.
The underground hip-hop?
Yeah.
What are your future goals?
To keep skateboarding--just to have fun and not get caught up in all of the drama. Just skate for fun.
Any last comments?
I don't know. Go skate.
